The Anatomy of A Water Damage

water damage restoration

Surprise, Surprise!

Picture this: You return home after running errands, only to find a flood waiting for you in the garage. Total shocker, right? Your mind is probably racing with questions like: - "What do I do now?" - "Where's all this water even coming from?" - "Is my home ruined?" - "Mold... Do I need to worry about that?" - "Will insurance cover this?”- "Wait, who's my insurance company again?"

What is the typical first move? Calling a close friend or family member for some moral support in this emotional rollercoaster.

Now in order to properly address your water damage, you’ll need to call a plumber to diagnose the leak. Don’t have a plumber already? Let us know and we will be more than happy to provide you with one. Once the plumbing issue has been resolved, make sure that they leave you detailed paperwork explaining what failed and how they repaired it. It's also a good idea to take pictures and save any failed plumbing pieces if you are making an insurance claim.

Hopefully by now your restoration company is on site, or en route to your home. They should be able to help inspect your property with moisture meters and in many cases infrared cameras that will show the path of the water so that they can formulate a plan, and scope of work for your property.

In many situations, insurance will cover a sudden occurrence such as a pipe break. If you have coverage, you will be responsible for your deductible and any upgrades you make. The insurance will cover the mitigation necessary to make your home safe and clean again, as well as the repairs to bring it back to the condition your home was pre-loss. When filling a claim, it is typically not necessary to get an initial estimate on the cleanup or mitigation portion of the claim as this is considered an emergency service and is needed to prevent further damage to your home or contents.

The drying and necessary demo usually will take 5-7 days to complete using Air Movers, Dehumidifiers, and AFD’s/ Hepa Filtration Devices to keep your family safe.

Water damage is never welcomed or expected, and always comes at a bad time. This is a quick overview that might help provide direction if you ever find yourself stepping into water. Champion Cleaning Systems is here for you 24/7, 365. Go ahead, contact us! Let us handle your water damage issues!
